Junagadh combines strong Saurashtra irradiance with a housing stock built mostly as independent homes and small apartment blocks, which is close to ideal for rooftop solar. The typical constraint here is not sunlight but roof planning: terraces carry water tanks, staircase rooms and parapets that cast long winter shadows, and the Girnar-side terrain means some properties have genuine morning or evening shading from higher ground and mature trees. A shadow analysis done properly at survey - across the day and across seasons, not just at noon - changes the layout and sometimes the recommended size. Financially the case is straightforward. A household billing 300 to 500 units a month usually fits a 3.3 kW to 3.85 kW array, and PM Surya Ghar pays up to ₹78,000 against a residential connection, which is a very large proportion of that system's installed price. Because the subsidy is a fixed cap rather than a percentage, the payback percentage is actually strongest on these mid-sized residential systems, not on the largest ones. Junagadh also carries a substantial base of agro-processing, groundnut and oil-milling activity, along with education and healthcare institutions whose load runs squarely through daylight hours. Those connections are not subsidy-eligible, but they self-consume nearly everything they generate, so they are usually quoted on capex or EMI against the commercial tariff. Net metering across the district is handled by PGVCL, and applications go to the local sub-division office.
