What a hybrid system does that on-grid cannot
A hybrid system is a grid-tied solar installation with a battery and an inverter capable of islanding safely. In normal operation it behaves exactly like an on-grid system: loads are served from solar, surplus is exported, and your bill settles on the net. When the grid fails, the hybrid inverter disconnects from the grid and keeps your designated backup circuits running from the battery and the array.
That combination is the reason hybrid is the right answer for outage-prone locations rather than off-grid. You keep the grid as an infinite backstop and keep your export credit; the battery only has to cover the loads you consciously chose to protect.
Design starts with the backup load schedule
The single decision that determines your hybrid cost is not the array size - it is what you want running during an outage. We build a written backup schedule at survey stage, and it is normally far shorter than customers first assume.

Cost: what the battery adds
Hybrid systems sit between on-grid and off-grid on cost per kWp. The array and structure cost the same as a grid-tied system; the premium comes from the hybrid inverter and the battery bank, and batteries carry a replacement cycle within the panel's 25-year life. That replacement cost has to be in your payback arithmetic honestly - a hybrid pays back more slowly than the equivalent on-grid system, and it buys you reliability rather than extra savings.

Subsidy and net metering with a hybrid
Subsidy treatment for hybrid installations is case dependent - the scheme is written around grid-connected systems with net metering, and what matters is how the installation is registered and metered. Replacing an existing inverter-battery setup
Many Ahmedabad homes already run a conventional inverter and tubular battery for outages. A hybrid installation can often reuse the existing essential-loads wiring, and in most cases replaces that setup entirely - the same battery now gets charged from your roof instead of from the grid at tariff rates.
