3kW Solar System Cost in Ahmedabad: Full Price Breakdown

A 3kW-class rooftop system is the most common residential size in Ahmedabad. Here is exactly what it costs, what the subsidy takes off, how much roof it needs and what it generates.

If your Torrent Power bill sits between roughly ₹2,500 and ₹3,500 a month, a 3kW-class rooftop system is almost certainly the size an honest installer will suggest. This guide breaks down what that system actually costs in Ahmedabad, what the PM Surya Ghar subsidy removes from the price, and what you get for the money.

What is the average cost of a 3kW solar installation in Ahmedabad?

Across Ahmedabad installers, published pre-subsidy prices for 3kW residential systems typically fall in the ₹1,50,000 to ₹2,10,000 range. That spread is not random - it tracks module brand and technology, inverter grade, mounting structure height and gauge, cable and earthing quality, and whether liaisoning and net metering paperwork is included or billed separately.

Our 3.3 kWp price of ₹1,64,000 sits in the lower-middle of that real market band while using tier-1 Adani mono bifacial modules - we are not the cheapest quote you will receive, and the pricing page explains exactly which components that number buys.

How much subsidy can I get for a 3kW solar system?

Under PM Surya Ghar the central subsidy is ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW, capped at ₹78,000. A 3kW system therefore hits the maximum: ₹30,000 + ₹30,000 + ₹18,000 = ₹78,000. Going above 3kW does not increase the subsidy. Full eligibility and payout detail is in our PM Surya Ghar subsidy guide and the subsidy-for-3kW explainer.

How much rooftop space does a 3kW system need?

Plan for roughly 200 to 250 sq ft of shadow-free roof for a 3kW-class array, depending on module wattage and the row spacing your structure design uses. Bifacial modules on an elevated structure need slightly more clearance but pick up reflected light from the roof surface. Water tanks, parapet shadows and neighbouring buildings matter more than total roof area - a site survey settles it in one visit.

What does a 3kW system generate and save?

At Gujarat's typical yield of about 4 units per kWp per day, a 3.3 kWp system generates roughly 396 units a month averaged across the year. At an effective ₹7.5 per unit including fixed charges, that is around ₹2,970 a month or ₹35,600 a year in bill offset - a simple payback of about 2.4 years against the ₹86,000 net price. The savings breakdown shows the working.

  • Monthly generation: ~396 units (varies by season and shading)
  • Estimated monthly bill offset: ~₹2,970 at ₹7.5/unit
  • Simple payback: ~2.4 years on ₹86,000 net
  • Module warranty: not less than 80% output at year 30

What is included in the price - and what is not

  • Included: modules, inverter, mounting structure, DC/AC cabling, earthing and lightning arrestor, installation labour, DISCOM liaisoning and net metering application support.
  • Usually separate: DISCOM meter charges and any deposit the utility levies directly, plus civil work if your roof needs waterproofing or a raised platform.
  • Watch for: quotes that exclude the mounting structure or net metering paperwork to look cheaper. Our quotation explained page shows how to read every line.

Should you buy 3kW or size up?

Because the subsidy caps at 3kW, every kW beyond it is paid fully by you - but it is also the cheapest per-kW capacity you will ever add, since scaffolding, labour and paperwork are already sunk. If your bill is growing or you plan an AC or EV, read 3kW vs 5kW: which should you buy before deciding.
